For anyone who may be new to the book club, the objective behind the book club is to read books by womxn authors of color, a very marginalized group in the literary canon. Feel free to discuss anything you find interesting about the book. You can talk about anything pertaining to the book, such as literary style, sentences you fell in love with, something you related to, cultural concepts, what you loved about the book, what you didn’t agree with, what you totally agreed with, what you didn’t understand, anything.
As for rules,
- Please be kind to & respectful of everyone in the group. Let people say their piece before responding.
- Try to stay on the topic of the book.
- This book club is also about learning and developing a better understanding of the experiences of women of color, so if you are not a woman of color, please participate in the discussion, but also be mindful of being an active listener when women of color are speaking in the group.
- Relax, unwind, speak freely and enjoy the discussion
