NEW SUNS BOOK CLUB: SUMMER EDITION

Saturday, June 29, 2024 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

New Suns Book Club

Books are powerful tools to help us dismantle, re-imagine, and recreate the world that is possible and necessary, one not defined by white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism, but defined by our connection to each other and the place we inhabit.

That is the intention of this book club, to be a piece of that collective effort through featuring and discussing imaginative fiction to create our wildest dreams, as well as nonfiction that unpacks the issues which our communities must address to move towards a liberated world.

We USUALLY switch between fiction and non-fiction each month and meet at noon at Palabras on the last Saturday of each month to discuss it.. BUT we're making an exception for the summer. This summer we're reading ONE BOOK over the next 3 months.

So the book for our June, July and August meetings is Break the Cycle: A Guide to Healing Intergenerational Trauma By Dr. Mariel Buqué. The book is separated into 3 parts, so we're reading part one in June, part two in July and part 3 in August. Each meeting will include a group activity from the book or inspired by it.

Description: From Dr. Mariel Buqué, a leading trauma psychologist, comes this groundbreaking guide to transforming intergenerational pain into intergenerational abundance. With Break the Cycle, she delivers the definitive guide to healing inherited trauma. Weaving together scientific research with practical exercises and stories from the therapy room, Dr. Buqué teaches readers how trauma is transmitted from one generation to the next and how they can break the cycle through tangible therapeutic practices, learning to pass down strength instead of pain to future generations.
